When it comes to the highly popular field of British motorsport that is the British Touring Car Championship, there is one name from its history that has remained known and loved. With an unbroken run of success for 12 years from 2006, Eurotech Racing were the team to beat. Today, we took a look back at the legacy they left on the world of touring cars.

The story of Eurotech Racing began back in 1987. Founded in Tamworth, Staffordshire by Mike Jordan, the team initially started out preparing Porsches for competing in races. From there, a long career began that initially started out in various forms of motorsport.

Among their team was Jordan, but also Jeff Smith, who had started out in club level karting, winning the Formula TKM Festival Cup twice in a row for 2002 and 2003, before going on to compete in the Renault Clio Cup for two seasons from 2008.

In 2010, he made his BTCC debut at Knockhill, in a Triple Eight-run Vauxhall Vectra, finishing in the top 15 in all three races. He joined Team Eurotech for the 2011 season, and - save for a year’s hiatus in 2014 - competed with them for the next seven years.

Daniel Lloyd, the youngest member of the team, had also started his career in karting from a young age, racing from the age of 11. He won the BRDC Junior Ginetta Scholarship to make his debut in car racing when he turned 16.

He won numerous races, finishing third in their championship in his first year. He went on to compete in the Renault Clio Cup, Scirocco R Cup in Germany and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB before he moved into GT racing with stints in Blancpain Sprint, Blancpain Endurance and British GT. He joined Team Eurotech from their 2015 season.

But it wasn’t until the team entered the British Touring Car Championship in 2006 that glory finally arrived. The team entered that year’s contest with Mike Jordan driving a Honda Integra. Aged just 48 at the time, he became the oldest winner in BTCC history after driving to victory at Mondello Park.

It was also a family affair in the 2008 season, as Mike Jordan, together with his son Andrew, finished in third place at both Oulton Park and Knockhill. From there, their staggering success continued to grow, as they progressed from racing in Honda Integras to Honda Civics.

Notably, they were known for winning the Independent Teams Championship in 2012, and an outright Driver’s Championship win in 2013 with Andrew Jordan at the wheel.

2015 saw a new era at Eurotech, as Jeff Smith took over the reigns as owner and driver in the British Touring Car team, which by now had grown to running two cars, with Martin Depper at the wheel of their second Honda Civic.

During 2016, the team continued to expand and secure more victories, moving into new, larger state-of-the-art premises in Tamworth, updating to three new Honda Civic Type R cars with Daniel Lloyd running as a third driver alongside the Smith and Depper line-up.

Eurotech also extended their operation into MINI Challenge, running three turbo-charged JCW class cars, driven by Jeff Smith, Brett Smith and Jo Polley, achieving three wins in their debut season.

Jack Goff joined the team for their 2017 season from the Team IHG Rewards Club, where they secured three more pole positions under his driving for them, and four wins for them as an independent driver.

Rebranding to Wix Racing with Eurotech for the 2018 season, it was to prove to be their last, as they withdrew from the BTCC at the conclusion of the season. But they went out on a high, finishing sixth in the Teams Championship and third in the Independents Championship.

And though Team Eurotech are no longer competing, at Driving Experience, we offer you the chance to book driving experiences in high performance GT cars at many great venues and locations nationwide just as they did.
