The abbreviation DVB stands for 'Digital Video Broadcasting'. This refers to the digital broadcasting of television, which is gradually replacing the analog broadcasting. The advantage of digital television is obvious: Only digital televison makes correspondingly high resolutions and a variety of channels possible, as the analog transmission just does not have the necessary capacity for that.
Within the digital TV world, there are now three different common versions called DVB-T, DVB-S and DVB-C, which is nothing more than the distinction between the well known terrestrial television, satellite television and cable TV.
DVB-T and DVB-T2
DVB-T is the digital terrestrial television and thus comparable to the old TV antennas on the roofs for analog television. The nice thing about the DVB-T antennas is, that they are very small in contrast to the old antennas and can be also used as an indoor antenna. Likewise, you can also use your old antenna for DVB-T.
DVB-T2 is the successor standard of DVB-T, which allows more programs in a higher image quality, but it is not backwards compatible with DVB-T.
DVB-S and DVB-S2
DVB-S stands for digital satellite TV. Here, the TV is broadcasted through a satellite and then lands on the satellite dish on the roof and via a DVB-S receiver in the living room.
DVB-S2 is the successor standard of DVB-S, which allows more programs in a higher image quality by using a higher data rate, but it is not backwards compatible to the old DVB-S standard.
DVB-C and DVB-C2

Digital cable TV is called DVB-C (C for cable). At cable TV, a cable connection of the house is required and you receive your television over the cable network.
DVB-C2 is the successor of DVB-C, which allows more programs in a higher image quality by a higher data rate.
DVB-H
Still in the testing is digital television for mobile phones, that is called DVB-H. If the time has come, with DVB-H and a correspondingly equipped mobile phone, you will be able to watch mobile television on the go.
